Reader’s Choice Gallery Cabaret

It’s true that the Gallery Cabaret’s Sunday open mikes tend to attract a higher quality of performer than the average open mike, but in the alternate musical dimension that open mikes reside in, “quality” isn’t all that important a quality. What makes the Gallery Cabaret one of the only open mikes in the city worth going out of your way for is the number and variety of musical oddities you’re bound to find on display. You want to see a septuagenarian woman, a metalhead in an Yngvie shirt, and a Ren Faire devotee collaborate on an ode to smoking weed? How about a boyfriend-girlfriend duo doing a strangely compelling update of Captain and Tennille-style lounge soul? It’s all here, and pretty much nowhere else.
