Myopic Books
Sure, it’s had four addresses in its 17 years, and sure, owner Joe Judd has decamped to a farm in the Ozarks, but Myopic Books is anything but unreliable. This Wicker Park institution has everything the budget-minded bibliophile could want. In addition to three floors of shelves upon shelves of books to suit readers of every stripe, Myopic’s got an online bookstore devoted to collectible, rare, and out-of-print titles; it stays open till 1 AM and hosts long-running experimental music and poetry series; and, naturally, it has its own cat. It’ll also pay good money for that barely used copy of Remembrance of Things Past that you’re never going to finish. 1564 N. Milwaukee, 773-862-4882, myopicbookstore.com. —Martha Bayne
